DIVISIBILITY

DIVISIBILITY :)

-when a number can be divided by another number without remainder.

DIVISIBILITY RULES

-quick ways to determine if a number is divisible by another number.

RULE FOR 2

-all even numbers are divisible by 2

- any number that ends with 0,2,4,6,8

eg:4 is divisible by 2

280 is divisible by 2

2971 is not divisible by 2

RULE FOR 5

-any number that ends with 0 and 5

eg: 155 is divisible by 5

8974 is not divisible by 5

RULE FOR 10

-any number that ends with 0

eg: 1070 is divisible by 10

27367 is not divisible by 10

360.4 is not divisible by 10

364.0 is not divisible by 10

RULE FOR 4

- look at the last two digits are they divisible by 2 twice?

- the rule for 4 is if the last2 digits are divisible by 2 twice the number is divisible by 4

eg: 42 4/2=2 2/2=1 42 is divisible by 4

10 10/2=5 5/2=2.5 10 is not divisible by 4

RULE FOR 8

- if the last 2 digits are divisible by 2 three times, the number is divisible by8

eg: 16 16/2=8 8/2=4 4/2=2 16 is divisible by 8

18 18/2=9 9/2=4.5 18 is not divisible by 8

RULE FOR 3

- add up all the digits until you have a single digit. If that digit is 3 the number is divisible by 3.

eg:93 9+3=12 1+2=3 93 is divisible by 3

1045 1+0+4+5=10 1+0=1 1045 is not divisible by 3

RULE FOR 6

-any number that is divisible by 2 and 3

RULE FOR 9

-add up all the digits until you have a single digit. If that digit is 9 the number is divisible by 9.

eg: 54 5+4=9 54 is divisible by 9

468 4+6+8=18 1+8=9 468 is divisible by 9

2345 2+3+4+5=14 1+4=5 2345 is not divisible by 9

RULE FOR 7

-use calculator! THERE IS NO SHORTCUT YET! Find one then name it after your self! :)

QUOTIENT

-is the result of division question.

eg: 12/2=6, 6 is the quotient.

  4. Good job Kathryn! I liked how you added a variety of colors and had a heading for each rule. Next time, you should change the font for everything, not just the beginning of the scribe. But, you did a great job!
