Random - an event in which every outcome has an equal chance of occuring.

For example : flipping a coin
spinning a spinner with four equal size options
rolling a die
selecting a card
Not everything in the world is random so there must be something that is not random. Like spinning a spinner with four unequal size options.

In 12 spins, it should land on blue 6 times, red 3 times and blue 3 times.

Goldilocks sits on 3 chairs and eats porridge. How many possible outcomes.
9 possible outcomes. 1/9 1:9 11%

Does Goldilocks choose the chair and porridge a random? Explain.
No because she has choice and preference.

P(just right chair and just right porridge) 9/9 9:9 100% because she has a choice

A marble is randomly selected from a bag that contains a red, blue, and 1 green marble. Then a 4 sided die is rolled.
A)Create a table to show the sample space
B) What is the probability of choosing any colour and rolling any number but 3?
9/12 3/4 75% 3:4
C) What is P (blue or green, a number greater than 1) 6/12 1/2 1:2 50%

D)P(black, 1) 0/12 0% 0:12 <------ impossible event.

E) P (red, blue, or green, and die displays 4) 3/12 1/4 1:4 25%

H.W.

A 4 sided die labled 1,2,3,4 a spinner divided into 5 equal parts: fly, swim, hop, glide, and walk.

a) create a table to show the sample space.
b)what is P(3,swim)
c) what is P(odd #, hop)

Probability - is the likelihood or chance of an event occurring.
Probability = Favorable outcomes/possible outcomes
eg. flipping a coin - probability 50% because there's two sides

Probability - can be expressed as a ratio, fraction or percent
eg. rolling dice - you have 1/6 chances of getting any number on the die

Outcome - one possible result of a probability experiment
- what might happen

Favorable Outcome - a successful result in a probability experiment
- what we want to happen

Numbers

A factor is a number that goes into another number exactly with no decimals or remainders.
Example: 2 is a factor of 6
2 goes into 6 exactly 3 times
2 is not a factor of 5
Because 2 goes into 5 2.5 times

Find the factors of: 4,12,16,17,41,96
4- 1,2,4
12-1,2,3,4,6,8,12,24
41- 1, 41
96-1,2,3,4,6,8,12,16,24,32,48,96

Prime Numbers are numbers with only 2 factors. Those factors are 1 and itself.

Composite Numbers are numbers with more than 2 factors (at least 3)

Determine whether each number are Prime or Composite: 1,9,13,28,31,41,51
1= Neither 9= Composite 13= Prime 28= Composite 31= Prime 41= Prime 51= Composite

A Multiple is a opposite of a factor.
Example: 10 is a multiple of 2
10 is a multiple of 5

Lowest Common Multiple : LCM
Find the lowest common multiple of 3 and 4
3-3,6,9,12,15,18,24,29,30
4-4,8,12,16,20,24,28,32,36
The Lowest common multiple is 12.

Find LCM
4 and 12
4-4,8,12,16,20,24,28,32......
12-12,24,36.....
The Lowest common multiple is 12

2 and 5 and 12
2-2,4,6,8,10,14............30
5-5,10,15,20,25,30
15-15,30
The Lowest common multiple is 30
Homework

Find the LCM of
2 and 4
3 and 5
6 and 7
